Sefinka is our first beneficiary of this program since 2019. She was born in 2000 in Jakarta. In 2016 her dad, only 40 years old, passed away of a sudden heart attack. At that time, her parents had been already divorced and lived separated, and her brother was only 8 years old. Perhaps you can imagine how hard the life was for her and her brother. Or, perhaps you can’t.
She could have had all the reasons in the world to give up, to use substances and other methods for an easy way out, to seek a quick and temporary happiness. She could have gone the other direction.
But no. She knows what she wants already in her young life. Her dreams and spirits to have a better life for herself and her brother live on. So, she decided to finish the high school and applied for a university. Remarkably, she got admitted just last year in one of the prestigious and oldest universities in Jakarta, Universitas Prof. Dr. Moestopo, taking a major in Communication Design. Now she’s already in the second semester of total 8.
Higher education in Indonesia however, just like in most countries, doesn’t come cheap. Tuition, school materials and transports cost a lot. Not to mention the regular living costs. Without parents who can support her financially, the struggle is real. Up until now, she has to rely on some odd jobs and donation from her extended families. With Bulan Project, we hope to ease her financial burden so she can concentrate on studying and finishing the university with a good grade, which will open doors for her to great opportunities in the future.
If you’d like to help her, we also created a GoFundMe campaign for a fundraising. There is no love too small to show.
